Cassapanca Chest, c.1700 Piemonte
Solid poplar. Handsome storage chest/bench. Outstanding example of hand-hewn woodworking. Constructed with handmade square nails and ‘bird’s-eye’ hinges of wrought iron. The paneled sides and very simple moldings combine with the lyre-shaped feet to capture an unpretentious model of the baroque style which was fashionable in that era. Excellent patina.
