Armadio Carlo X, c. 1830 Piemonte
Solid walnut with a back panel in poplar, inlaid filet in maple. A definitive example of the classic Carlo X style. Clean lines, with a minimal amount of decoration, allow the natural beauty of the burled walnut to speak for itself. The stepped crown molding bears clipped corners, highlighting a skilled woodworker’s proficiency at joinery. A diagonally-fitted border of light and dark woods accents the base of crown. A very fine inlay of maple and heavy brass-and-iron hardware make the substantial doors the central highlight of the piece. The base includes a generous dovetailed drawer, and is supported by lyre-carved feet.
